Ronald “Old Man” Le Roy Williams

Williams Ronald LRONALD “OLD MAN” LEROY WILLIAMS, age 65, of Lincoln died Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.   Ron was born on October 25, 1948, in Longview, Washington to Ronald and Parale (Smith) Williams.  He grew up in Lincoln and graduated Lincoln Northeast High School.

Ron retired from Goodyear in 2008, after 24 years of employment.  He was also a United Steelworkers Union Steward.  Ron proudly served our country from 1968-1974 as a U.S. Naval Signalman; he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal,  Bronze Star, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).  Ron was known for his big passion of Husker Athletics.

On June 4, 1969 he married Pamela Lewis and together they raised three children.

Ron is survived by daughter, Kerry Peterson; sons, Ronnie (Brandee) Williams, and Seth Williams; grandchildren, Ashten and Alexa Williams, Grace and Tanner Peterson; sister, Linda (Marv) Conaway; brother, Robert Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, at Wyuka Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike McMurtry officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Lincoln, NE with Military Honors.  Following burial a family reception will then be held at Wyuka Funeral Home.

StueferJoyce C. Stuefer, age 77 of Lincoln, passed away June 14, 2014.  She was born April 16, 1937 in Columbus, Nebraska to Ernest E. and Catherine M. (Melcher) Soulliere.

Survivors include her husband: Gayle, daughter and son-in-law: Cindy Stuefer-Powell and Roy Powell, son: Michael and fiancé Kellie Munden, daughter:  Connie Jo Newman and her fiancé Marc Schulenberg all of Lincoln.   Grandchildren and spouses: Miranda and John Pruett, Gwen and Jason Farewell, Dylan Powell, D.J. and Jennifer Mahloch, Alexis Jo Mahloch, Damon Newman, Joshua Newman, Jayce Schulenberg, Scott and Jennifer Witherby, Tara Cordova, Travis and Sydney Munden and Corey Munden.  Great grandchildren: Barrett William Farewell, Hazel Mae Farewell, Casey Buske, Anthony, Lilly and Sofia Cordova, Jax and Knox Witherby, Ronan Munden, Henry Edgington Pruett and one on the way.  Brothers and sister-in-law, Bill Soulliere of Columbus, Dean and Colleen Soulliere of Columbus and sisters-in-law, Kathy Soulliere of Bellwood and Peggy Soulliere of California.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy, her parents, sister: Lois Soulliere and brothers: Jim and Gary Soulliere.

A rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 O St.  Lincoln

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 20, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 6111 Morrill Ave. Lincoln.

Visitation will be at Wyuka Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19th from 9:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Memorials to the family for a later designation.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, 84th and Adams, Lincoln.

Johnson Brianna, photo BRIANNA “BREEZY” RAE JOHNSON, age 30, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Her final days were spent lovingly surrounded by family and friends.  She was born September 13, 1983 in Lincoln.

 Brianna’s big smile, bubbly personality, and generous soul brought great joy to her friends and family and will be greatly missed.  From childhood she was a social butterfly and throughout her life, her friends were as important as family.  She adored her nieces and nephews and was the “fun” aunt.  She played the flute, loved to sing, enjoyed being outdoors, and loved animals and nature.  Her three beautiful daughters were the light of her life.

Brianna is preceded in death by her father, Allen C. Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters, Shyana, Sage, and Ava; mother and step-father Laurie (Jerry) Ladd of Lincoln; grandparents, Raymond and Beverly Johnson of Wahoo; grandmother Sandra Fenner of Fremont; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angie and Jeff Wusk of Lincoln, Anthony and Heather Elia of Omaha, Cortney Johnson of Omaha, and Brooke Johnson of Lincoln; nephews, Zachary, Justin, Joshua, Lorin, Isaac, Ethan, and Tre; nieces, Nicole, Ella Mae, Sammie, Paige, Zoey, Maddie, and Tianna; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home Park on Saturday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Cleve Smith will be officiating.

Anthony, Wanda

WANDA MAE ANTHONY, age 83, of Fairbury, Nebraska died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Gardenside Nursing Home in Fairbury.  Wanda was born on August 9, 1930, in North Platte and was adopted by Jacob and Violet (Brewer) Zinsmaster at the age of six weeks old.

Wanda graduated from Eagle High School and made a living owning a restaurant in Tecumseh and waitressing.  In 1967 she trained as a trained Disc Jockey in Falls City, NE. Wanda was also a musician and played the piano.  In the 1970’s she lived and worked in California and Oregon, returning to Nebraska in 1975.  During the 1980’s Wanda was on the Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in Alvo, NE.  She has resided in Fairbury since 1990.

Wanda is survived by her daughter Sandra (Edward) Runge; step daughters, Audrey Williams and Kim Chapman; step sons, Dave (Terry) Anthony and Mark Anthony; six grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William Anthony; and her son, James Oldfield.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Wyuka Funeral Home Chapel in Lincoln with Pastor George Cook officiating.  A family burial will follow at a later date in Eagle, NE.

Conarro web picTERRY CONARRO, age 71, of Lincoln died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.  Terry was born on May 29, 1943 in O’Neill, Nebraska the son of Joe and Teresa (Sparks) Conarro.

Funeral Services and Burial for Terry were held at Wyuka Funeral Home and Cemetery on Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 with his close family and friends in attendance.  Rev. Mark Ebert officiated.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darren; and his brother Roger Conarro.

Terry is survived by his wife Margaret; sons, Doug Conarro, Darrell (Jean) Conarro, and Jim Conarro;  daughter, Lori (Colin) Allen; eight grandchildren:  Leah, Staci, Matraca, Dylan, Lacey, Gwen, Kendra, and Alicia; and seven great grandchildren.

May his memory be blessed.

Richard E. Prasek

FlagRICHARD E. PRASEK, age 83, of Lincoln, died Wednesday July 2, 2014 at Southlake Village Care Center.  Richard was born in Crete, NE on Nov. 22, 1930 the son of Frank and Adella (Srejkovsky) Prasek.  He grew up and attended schools in Crete; later receiving his Degree in Education from Doane College of Crete.

Richard served his country in the National Guard (1947-1956) and the U.S. Army (1953-1955); receiving the Sharp Shooter Medal – Rifle Range and the Good Conduct Medal.  In 1958 he began his fifty year marriage to Loretta Neel, they began their married life in Beatrice and Lincoln, and raised three children.  Richard pursued his career as High School Teacher at Oxford and Plattsmouth High Schools, and as Principal at Swanton Public School.  Later his employment included Martin Luther Home, Beatrice State Home, General United Insurance Company (Richard was a 50 year member of Western Insurance Fraternal Lodge #426), Lincoln General Hospital, and he retired from the University of Nebraska.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents; wife Loretta in 2008; and brother Lou Prasek.

Survivors include sons, Rick (Shelley) Prasek of Lincoln and Loren (Colleen) Prasek of Lincoln; daughter, Lori (Michael) Gilbert of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren:  Sean, Michella, Loren, Michael, Britney, Alvin, Mary and Joseph; and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Richard will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home in Lincoln, NE  at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014.  Pastor George Robie will be officiating.  Visitation is being held on Monday, July 7,  from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Wyuka Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. to receive visitors.

Memorials in lieu of flowers to Horizon Hospice of Lincoln and Doane College of Crete.  May his memory be forever blessed.

 

Betty J. Deal

(COX) DEAL, age 76, of Lincoln, NE died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at home surrounded by her family and Tabitha Home Health Care.  Betty was born May 12, 1938 in Wise, VA to Olga K. Cox, she grew up in Tennessee.  In 1957 she married Donald L. Deal in Indianapolis and they moved to Lincoln in 1971.  Betty worked for Telex Communications (now Bosch Systems) from 1971-2000.

Betty is a member of Sheridan Lutheran Church; she loved volunteering for Matt Talbot Hunger Relief; and also was a member of the Red Hats Society.  She loved traveling, shopping, gardening, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Don Deal; daughter Cindy Deal of Lincoln; and son Richard Deal of Lincoln.

She is survived by daughter Donna Brophy of Lincoln; son Mike (Connie) Deal of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at Sheridan Lutheran Church on Monday, July 14, at  11:00 a.m., with Pastor Eric Bostrom officiating.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Memorials are requested to The Salvation Army and Tabitha Healthcare Services in lieu of flowers.

CarperBette J. Carper, age 88, of Lincoln, passed away July 11, 2014.  She was born August 23, 1925 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Glenn and Treasa (Endelman)  Stevens.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Marcia Carper of Lincoln.  Granddaughters and spouse, Megan and Brad Griffin of Lincoln, Cassandra Carper of Lincoln.  Brother and Sister-in-law, Glen Jr. and Elaine Stevens of Lincoln.  Bette was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Carper and her son Steven Carper.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, July 14th at Wyuka Funeral Home.  Private family visitation only.  Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Paul M. Reagan

ReaganPaul M. Reagan, age 90 of Lincoln, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on May 4, 2014.  He was born July 27, 1923 in Nazareth, Pennsylvania to William A. and Gertrude (Miller) Reagan.  Paul graduated from Nazareth High School in 1943 and in the same year he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps.  Paul served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1945 and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of Lincoln, son Mike Reagan of Lincoln, Daughters Becky Reagan of Omaha and Amy Reagan of O’Fallon, Illinois.  Granddaughters Sarah Russell and her husband Ryan of Belleville, Illinois and Carol Blanchard of O’Fallon, Illinois.  Brother and sister-in-law William A. Reagan, Jr. and his wife Flo of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.  Nieces and Nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George A. Reagan and Kinsey Reagan, sisters Pauline, Marion and Maude.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Wyuka Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors will be at Wyuka Cemetery following the memorial service.

Noreen B. (Kyle) Kent

KentNoreen (Kyle) Kent, age 73 of Lincoln, formerly of Hastings passed away July 22, 2014.  She was born September 2, 1940 in County Mayo, Ireland to John and Nora (McManamen) Sweeney.  Noreen met Myron Kyle in 1960 and moved to the United States and married Myron in 1961.  To this union seven children were born; John, Jim, Mike, Ron, Eric, Russ and Heather.  Noreen married Richard Kent in August of 1976.  He helped raise her seven children, he passed away in April of 1999.  Noreen was very loved and will be missed by all.

Survivors include her children; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie and Andy of Cambridge, England, Evelyn and Cathal of London, England.  Sister-in-law, Breedge Sweeney of County Mayo, Ireland.  Many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Harry Clarke, brothers, James and Eamen.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Wyuka Cemetery.  Private family visitation.  Family and friends will gather at Wyuka Funeral Home prior to 1:50 P.M.

Memorials may be given to the family for a later designation.

Viola_Bilodeau_Nurse_Picture1Viola (Vi) May Hofer Bilodeau, 86, died on July 28 at Good Sam Hospice in Syracuse, NE.  She was a U.S. Navy Veteran.   Viola May Hofer was born on Oct. 10, 1927 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, daughter of  George and Anna Gerdes Hofer.  Vi grew up and attended school in La Crescent, MN.  She graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse, WI in 1945, where she excelled in the study of Latin. Vi attended the University of MN St. Mary’s School of Nursing before she joined the Navy Nursing program in Minneapolis.  While at the U. of MN, she met her future husband, Joseph Bilodeau.  On Feb. 20, 1951 Vi received her commission from the United States Navy.  As an Ensign, Vi  worked at the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL.  She married Joseph Bilodeau on Sept. 15, 1951 in Waukegan, IL.  Vi worked as a registered nurse in Lincoln’s St. Elizabeth and Veteran’s Hospitals.  She retired from the Veteran’s Hospital in 1986.  Vi loved to dance and had a wonderful time traveling.  She was a gracious hostess and loved to entertain.  Her greatest joy in life was her children and precious  grandchildren.  Vi was dedicated to remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special events.  She never failed to call, send a card, or flowers to celebrate each and every event.  She especially enjoyed holidays with all her family around her.

Vi is survived by her children:  Betty Jo and her husband, Bill Keith, of Lakota, ND; Mary and her husband, Dave Banks, of Richland, WA; David Bilodeau of Lincoln, NE; John Bilodeau and his wife, Mary, of Iowa; six grandchildren; brother  Jim Hofer and his wife, Angie, of La Crescent, MN; many nieces and nephews; and extended family in MN.  We’ll miss you, Mama.  Rest  with God.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents, George and Anna; brother Dave; and Joseph Bilodeau.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, Aug. 1 at Wyuka Funeral Home in Lincoln, 3600 O Street.

Military Rites will be provided by the  American Legion Post #3 of Lincoln at the gravesite.

Connie Lee Fleming

Connie Lee Fleming of Lincoln, died July 31, 2014.  She was born August 12, 1931 in Abilene, Kansas.  On June 6, 1957 she was united in marriage to Richard Fleming.  Connie was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge clubs, including the University of Nebraska Women’s Faculty Club and served as chair of the bridge group, Lincoln duplicate bridge club and pick-up bridge games at Prairie Life Fitness Center.  She was involved in education at various levels.  She served as a secretary at Abilene High School, Nebraska Wesleyan University and assisted students at UNL registration.

Connie is survived by her husband, Richard of Lincoln; Son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Becky Fleming of Eagle, Nebraska; Daughter, Julie Chieffo of Lincoln.  Grandsons and spouse, Ryan and Holli Fleming of Punta Gorda, Florida, Josh Fleming of Woodbury, Minnesota and Michael Chieffo of Lincoln.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Merle Berger.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 4th at Wyuka Funeral Home, 3600 O Street, Lincoln.

Schmidt, age 53 of Lincoln, passed away July 31st.  She was born May 20, 1961 in Lincoln.  Sheri’s folks moved to Bennet, in 1971, Sheri graduated from Norris High School in Firth, NE in 1980.  She was married in 1987 and her children were born in 1988, 1990 and 1995.  Sheri was a loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, daughter and aunt who put her family first and did anything for her children, grandchildren and family.

Sheri is survived by her parents, Terry and Sandra Yonkey of Bennet, NE; Husband Gary Schmidt; Son Michael (Jenn) Schmidt of Unadilla, NE; Daughter Katherine (Michaela) Schmidt of Lincoln; Son John Schmidt of Lincoln; Grandchildren Brooklyn and Ryder; Siblings Duane (Liz) Yonkey; Kim (Kirk) Lehl; Andy Yonkey; Mother-in-law Carol Schmidt; Sisters-in-law Elaine Crooks and Deb Gropp; plus many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5th at Wyuka Funeral Home.  No visitation, Sheri’s wishes were to be cremated.  Burial of ashes will be at Wyuka Cemetery.

Goodwin, age 92 of Lincoln, passed away August 23, 2014.  She was born August 20, 1922 in Dixon, Nebraska to Fredrick and Emma (Lilje) Wolter.  Elinor was married to Orville Goodwin, Jr. on June 1, 1947, they were married for 61 years.  She retired from KMart where she worked as a sales clerk.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Lynn and Paula Goodwin of Denton, Texas; son: Rick Goodwin of Lincoln.  Daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda Goodwin and Ron Lawson of Lincoln.  8 Grandchildren; 17 Great grandchildren; 2 Great, great grandchildren.  Sister: Luella Bose of Laurel, Nebraska.  Many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, Jr.  Son, Keith and daughter, Sharon.  Her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Services will be held at Wyuka Funeral Home on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, 84th and Adams, Lincoln.

Visitation will be at Wyuka Funeral Home, 9:00 A.M. until service time on August 28th.
