Norman D. Penkava

Norman Dean Penkava, 90, of Lincoln, passed away on July 7, 2021. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 13 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation from 9:30-10:45 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lincoln, pastor Mark Ebert officiating. Interment will follow at Wyuka Cemetery, concluding with a reception at the church. Online Condolences may be left for the family at www.wyuka.com.
Norman was born on May 27, 1931, to Joseph and Velta (Oviatt) Penkava at Virginia, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from Virginia consolidated school. Norman was married to Phyllis Schuerman in 1950. Norman later would join the Marine corps and proudly serve his country from 1952-1954 during the Korean conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the USMC, Norman returned to Lincoln to resume work at Green Furnace & Plumbing from 1949-2002. Following Phyllis’ passing, he was united in marriage to Leora Borgmann in 2004. From 2005-2014, Norman and Leora enjoyed their winters in Texas, thus becoming the “Winter Texans”. He was also an active member of the Pleasantdale American Legion Post #354.
He was preceded in death by his late wife Phyllis; sons Steven and Galen Penkava and a sister, Joan Pardee.
Left to cherish Norman’s memory are his wife Leora (Kulla) Penkava; son Jere (Cheryl) Penkava; brother Bob (Kathy) Penkava; stepdaughter Michelle (Dennis) Haakenson; stepsons Mark (Denise) and John (Kris) Borgmann; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and daughter-in-law Nella Alcalde.
