Mildred Klein Heaton, age 88, passed away January 9, 2016. She was born August 17, 1927 in Lincoln to John and Katherine (Stehr) Klein. Mildred was a co-owner of Klein’s IGA and Bakery, 11th & G streets, and started work at a very young age. The bakery was started in 1928 by her parents, which eventually grew to include a grocery store, liquor store and discount grocery store in the same cluster of buildings.
Mildred is survived by her son Michael and his wife Sally, grandchildren Hannah and Andrew all of Overland Park, Kansas. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Lt Col (USAF Ret) James, her parents, sister Gertrude, and bothers Edward and Wesley Klein.
Celebration of life services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Wyuka Funeral Home with visitation from 9:00 A.M. until service time and family greeting friends from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Wyuka Funeral Home. Due to the cold temperature all services will be held indoors.
